November 27, 2021SA Chamber USA celebrated Heritage Day with the South African Community in the Mid-West. Our Consul General Phumzile Mazibuso gave a great speech celebrating the rich cultural diversity of South Africans in the USA. South Africans’ contribution to the USA society is immense. A young South African student from Colombia College in Chicago sang the National Anthem with such pride it gave everyone goosebumps. She still remembered the words from when she was a scholar in South Africa. The Ambassador of South Africa HE Nomaindiya Mfeketo thanked the South African community for their support and encouraged all to share their cultural diversity with America. The event was well attended with a great spread of South African food and wine. We are and will always be proudly South African.
SA Chamber USA also celebrated our South African Heritage Day with our communities across the USA. South Africans in the USA hosted these events all over the USA. Here are a list of the events.
Carolina’s Andrew Woolgar hosted a proper South African Braai at Triangle Wine/Butchers Market on Lassiter Rd Holly Springs. In California, Mano G Thanos held a Heritage day braai at Vasona Park, Los Gatos South Bay Area, that is Northern California.
Texas was with Louis Cloete and Candice Naidoo. They held their First Annual South African Bazaar on Saturday 25 September from 11 am to 5 pm. Danie Prinsloo, a resident Namibian musician handled the music and entertainment for the day as our MC.
New York and Connecticut hosts were Lee Ann Benjamin. They also held a braai with music and Bazaar.
Nico Du Plessis hosted the Georgia event with Rugby and a Braai at Sandy Springs, Georgia. In Tennessee, our host for the day was Kobie Pretorius. She held a Friends of South Africa Sunday Braai hosted by Lynne & Bill Siesser in Green Hills, Nashville.
In the Midwest, Phumzile Mazibuko held their Heritage Day Event at the Consulate in Chicago, at 6 pm, Saturday, 200 S Michigan Ave, Chicago. SA Chamber USA President Neil Diamond presented the Consul General of South Africa in Chicago HE Phumzile Pride Mazibuko with Certificate of Appreciation from the South African Chamber of Commerce USA for the great work she has done in serving the South African Community in the Midwest. The Ambassador HE Nomaindiya Mfeketo joined in to do the official handover.
