November 17, 2022SA Chamber USA welcomes the big announcement by United Airlines
Their new new Nonstop Flights from Washington DC to South Africa. Chamber President Mr Neil Diamond congratulated Brett J Hart, President of United Airlines and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Mr Richard T Yoneoka on this achievement.
Brett J Hart, President of United announced the new direct flights between Washington, DC’s Dulles Airport and Cape Town, South Africa —becoming the first airline to provide nonstop round-trip service from the United States’ capital to one of South Africa’s main gateways.
Richard Yoneoka the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Affairs announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation granted United Airlines three weekly direct flights, which will commence tomorrow November 17, 2022. The carrier has more flights to South Africa than any other North American airline.
Steve Morrissey, United’s Vice President of Government Affairs said, “We are thrilled to further expand our Africa offering with this first-ever direct link between Washington DC and Cape Town,”
Brett Hart said that with the new route United will offer a total of 19 weekly flights to Africa. United’s new flights also connect Cape Town to 55 U.S. cities, representing more than 92% of the U.S. travel demand. The new flights will also allow customers to connect in Cape Town to other points in South Africa, and other countries in the southern region of the African continent with United’s South African-based partner Airlink and their Cape Town hub.
Neil Diamond said that especially the H2A travelers from the Western Cape coming to the USA to work on farms will greatly benefit from this new route.
United Airlines will utilize Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on this new route, which features 48 lie-flat, United Polaris® business class seats, 21 United Premium Plus® seats, and 188 economy seats.
